Arcane M'LinkX vs RCI Roof Rack: Worth $300 More? (2026)
I earn a commission if you buy through these links or codes, at no extra cost to you. I only list brands I've used or tested on my own trucks. Arcane Warrior has paid me to make videos about its products. This post is my own take.
Get the RCI Ascent if you want a set-it-and-forget-it rack for a rooftop tent. Get the Arcane M'LinkX if you want tool-free crossbar adjustment, quick-release accessories and built-in lighting. The M'LinkX for the Land Cruiser 250 is $1,399.99 and about 63 lb installed (estimated). The RCI Ascent full rack for the 6th gen 4Runner is $1,099 and about 69 lb, per RCI.
So, I compared these two racks side by side at ToyTec in Denver. The M'LinkX was on a Land Cruiser 250 and the RCI Ascent was on a 6th gen 4Runner. The question was simple: what does the extra $300 actually buy you?
Full disclosure, that video was a paid partnership with Arcane Warrior. The take in it is my honest one, and the verdict below is the same one I gave on camera, including where the RCI wins.
The numbers side by side
| Arcane M'LinkX | RCI Ascent | |
|---|---|---|
| Truck in the video | Land Cruiser 250, full length | 6th gen 4Runner, full rack |
| Price | $1,399.99 | $1,099 |
| Weight | About 63 lb installed (estimated) | About 69 lb (RCI's number) |
| Link ports | 8 | — |
| Lighting | Built for integrated lights | — |
| Best for | Changing your setup often | A rooftop tent that stays up there |
The weights aren't apples to apples. One is my estimate of the M'LinkX installed and the other is RCI's published number, on two different vehicles. Close enough to say the M'LinkX isn't heavier, not close enough to call it a big weight win.
What the extra $300 gets you
The M'LinkX is built as a platform. It has 8 link ports for accessories, it's set up for built-in lighting, and the crossbars and accessories can be set up to move or come off without tools. If you're the kind of person who runs a cargo case one weekend, boards and a fuel can the next, and nothing on your daily commute, that's where it makes sense.
One thing to know before you order. On Arcane's site, the base price of the M'LinkX includes the platform and two standard fixed-position crossbars only. The tool-free pieces and the lights are add-ons:
- M'LinkX Wave Quick Release Crossbar: $249.99
- M'LinkX Press-fit Quick Release Mounting Brackets: $299.99
- M'LinkX Front Light Bar Kit: $799.99
- Side and rear scene light bar kits: $349.99 and $399.99
So the real gap depends on how much of that you want. If you want the full quick-release and lighting setup, budget for more than $300 over the RCI.
Where the RCI Ascent wins
If a rooftop tent is going on and staying on, you don't need tool-free anything. You bolt the tent down once and leave it. That's where the RCI Ascent makes more sense in my opinion. It's the bombproof, set-it-and-forget-it option, and it's $300 cheaper to start.
RCI racks are sold at Runnin4Tacos, the Denver Toyota parts store, and my code works there too. Check the listing for your exact truck before you order, since R4T's RCI lineup is listed by vehicle and year.

My verdict
If you run a rooftop tent full time, get the RCI Ascent. It's cheaper, it's bombproof and you'll never touch it. If you want tool-free crossbar adjustment, quick-release accessories and built-in lighting, the M'LinkX is the one, because that's what the extra money pays for. Just go in knowing some of those pieces are sold separately.
If you're also shopping cases for the roof, I put an Arcane 108L Flex cargo case on my Tune M1 camper. More on that in the Tune M1 upgrades post.
