ExperiMental Discount Code: TVO15 for 15% Off (2026)
I earn a commission if you buy through these links or codes, at no extra cost to you. I only list brands I've used or tested on my own trucks.
The ExperiMental discount code is TVO15, for 15% off at experimentalinc.com. Enter it at checkout. ExperiMental makes the Freedom Locker, a plug-in kit that lets you use your Toyota's factory rear e-locker in 2WD, 4HI and 4LO instead of only 4LO.
How to use the code
- Go to experimentalinc.com and pick the kit for your exact vehicle and generation.
- Add it to your cart and open checkout.
- Type TVO15 in the discount code box. All caps, no spaces.
- Check that the 15% comes off before you pay.
Most stores take one code per order. If ExperiMental is running a bigger sale, compare the sale price against 15% off and use whichever saves you more.
What the Freedom Locker actually does
So, on a stock Toyota with the factory rear e-locker, the truck only lets you lock the rear diff in 4LO. The Freedom Locker is a module that plugs into the factory 4WD system so you can engage that same factory locker in 2WD, 4HI or 4LO. It doesn't add a new locker. You're just getting more control over when you can use the one you have.
The reason that matters is you don't always want to be in low range when you need the locker. Think sand, snow, mud or rocks. That's the whole idea behind it.
We installed one on Last Line Of Defense's 4th gen Tacoma, a turbo hybrid on 37s, and had to test it the fun way. Rear locker engaged in 2WD, a little water on the ground, and it had no problem spinning those 37s. That's a short, so it's quick to watch.
Why I'm comfortable recommending it
I've covered the Freedom Locker on five Toyotas on the channel now: a 3rd gen Tacoma back in 2024, then install videos on a 2nd gen Tacoma, a 2022+ Tundra and an FJ Cruiser, plus the 4th gen Tacoma test above. The install videos go step by step, so you can see exactly what you're getting into before you buy.
- 2nd gen Tacoma: you pull the glove box, get to the 4WD module, plug in the harness and test it. That's pretty much the whole job.
- FJ Cruiser: some interior panel removal, connect the harness, place the module, test, and put it back together.
- 2022+ Tundra: this one has more steps. Battery disconnect, trim and dash panels, a fuse tap, wiring the module and connecting to the 4WD control module. There's optional wiring to disable traction control and an optional LED indicator. I also show where the hybrid and non-hybrid Tundras differ.
So it's a plug-and-play kit, not a diff swap. The Tundra is the most involved of the bunch.
Which Freedom Locker fits your Toyota
Here's what ExperiMental lists on their site as of October 28, 2026. Every kit needs a factory rear e-locker. If your truck didn't come with one, this won't add a locker.
| Vehicle | Kit | Fitment notes from ExperiMental |
|---|---|---|
| Tacoma, 2005–2015 (2nd gen) | 2nd Gen Tacoma Freedom Locker | Any 2nd gen with a factory rear e-locker |
| Tacoma, 2016–2023 (3rd gen) | 3rd Gen Tacoma Freedom Locker | TRD Pro, TRD Off-Road and SR5 Trail Edition |
| Tacoma, 2024+ (4th gen) | 4th Gen Tacoma Freedom Locker | Any model with a factory e-locker |
| Tundra, 2022+ | 3rd Gen Tundra Freedom Locker | Any model with a factory e-locker |
| Sequoia, 2023+ (3rd gen) | 3rd Gen Sequoia Freedom Locker | Any model with a factory e-locker |
| 4Runner, 2025+ (6th gen) | 6th Gen 4Runner Freedom Locker | All models with the factory locker |
| 4Runner, 2010–2024 (5th gen) | 5th Gen 4Runner Freedom Locker | Manual 4WD shifter only (not the electronic selector). Separate versions for builds before and after August 2019. Sold out when I checked |
| FJ Cruiser, 2007–2014 | FJ Cruiser Freedom Locker | FJs with the factory e-locker |
| Land Cruiser 250, 2024+ | LC250 Freedom Locker Kit | Listed as coming soon |
When I checked, the kits ran from about $180 (FJ Cruiser) to about $250 (most of the newer trucks) before the code. Prices change, so go by the product page.
ExperiMental sells more than lockers too. Their site also has a Toyota tuning harness, a quick tire deflator and Baja Designs lighting kits for Tacoma, Tundra, 4Runner and Sequoia. TVO15 is a store code, so check that it applies to whatever's in your cart.
Another place to check: Runnin4Tacos
Runnin4Tacos also carries the ExperiMental Freedom Locker lineup, and my 2024 video on the 3rd gen Tacoma kit linked there. My Runnin4Tacos code is TVO10.
So if the kit you want is in stock in both places, price it out both ways with each code and go with the lower total. Stock wasn't the same on both sites when I looked, so one may have it when the other doesn't.

FAQ
Does ExperiMental have a discount code?
Yes. Code TVO15 takes 15% off at experimentalinc.com. Enter it at checkout.
Can you use the Toyota rear locker in 2WD?
Not from the factory. Toyota only lets the rear e-locker engage in 4LO. The ExperiMental Freedom Locker lets you engage it in 2WD and 4HI as well, on trucks that came with the factory locker.
Does the Freedom Locker fit my 3rd gen Tacoma?
ExperiMental lists the 2016–2023 kit for the TRD Pro, TRD Off-Road and SR5 Trail Edition. Your truck needs the factory rear e-locker for it to work.
Does the Freedom Locker work on a 5th gen 4Runner?
Only on 2010–2024 4Runners with the manual 4WD shifter and a factory rear e-locker, not the electronic selector. There are separate versions for builds before and after August 2019, and it was sold out when I checked.
Is the Freedom Locker hard to install?
On the 2nd gen Tacoma and FJ Cruiser it's mostly pulling interior panels and plugging in a harness. The 2022+ Tundra takes more steps, including a fuse tap and dash panel removal. All of them are on the channel step by step.
